Engage, Educate, Empower ST. Benedict Basic School

Sub-Saharan Africa faces a significant education exclusion challenge, with alarming statistics revealing a lack of access to education and computer literacy. More than one-fifth of children aged 6-11 are out of school, with one-third of youth aged 12-14 facing a similar fate. Alarmingly, almost 60% of youth aged 15-17 are not attending school, as per UNESCO data in 2021. Addressing this urgent issue is crucial, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This alarming statistic reflects at ST. Benedict Basic School, faced with significant barriers such as:

Lack of access to digital technology and educational resources, including computers, internet connectivity, and reading materials.

Inadequate learning environments, with some students attending classes under trees due to the absence of proper classroom blocks.

Financial constraints preventing many students from accessing tuition support and school supplies, including books, shoes, school bags, and writing materials.

High illiteracy rates and the risk of students dropping out of school due to these challenges.

By providing digital literacy training and educational support in rural communities like ST. Benedict Basic School, the project aims to bridge the gap between access and opportunity.

Project objectives

To Increase school attendance and retention rates among target beneficiaries.

Provide digital literacy training for students to enhance their computer skills, internet literacy, that ignite curiosity and innovation in young minds growing up in rural areas.

To enhance the teaching effectiveness and student engagement at ST. Benedict Basic School by providing digital tools training for teachers, enabling them to incorporate ICT into their teaching methodologies and create more interactive and engaging learning experiences for students.

Empower 30 mothers with soap and detergent making skill as means of empowerment and business to support their children in school

To Provide school supplies (school uniform, school bags, shoes and books) to 50 students from low income families.

Expected Outcomes

Increased digital literacy skills among children, teachers and youth in rural communities, leading to improved educational outcomes.

Increased academic performance, reduced dropout rates, and improved future prospects for students in the community.

Enhanced community awareness and engagement in promoting education and digital inclusion initiatives.

Long-term socio-economic development and empowerment of rural communities through education.
